Neo noir

A neo noir is a more modern style of Noir. It uses modern characteristics, although the visual style is very similar to classic noir. Neo noir took the codes and conventions of film noir but modernized aspects of the genre; soundtrack, story lines, visual effects of low key lighting were brought up to present day and applied to a new modern films.

A perfect examples of neo noir.

The Matrix

The Matrix is written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski. he film depicts a future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality. The film contains many references to the cyberpunk and hacker subcultures; philosophical and religious ideas. Chicago skyline settings and city maps the destination of the subway train during the subway are very urban. There is alot of low key lighting and useage of shadows.

Blade Runner

Blade Runner is a 1982 American science fiction film, directed by Ridley Scott. Urban setting of Los Angeles. Deckard is a typical film noir anit-hero and Rachael, Pris and Zhora could be portrayed as femme fatals. Dystopians in which, is genetically engineered organic robots called replicants, manufactured by Tyrell Corporation as well as other mega manufacturers around the world. Replicants who defy the ban and return to Earth are hunted down by police known as blade runners.

The brief

The brief is to create a two minute opening sequence for modern Film Noir. I will research Film Noir, its history and the codes and conventions of the genre in order to help me create my final piece. I'll be in a group of four people each having their own responsibilities, but all pitching in with everything to create the final product.

During the course of creating preliminary piece to familiarize our selves with the equipment to film, record and software for editing. this will be a simple piece of some walking into a room and having a conversation sequence.

After the preliminary exercise we shall move onto a more complex sequence to further our skills before moving on to the final piece.
